► A Look at Music Videos. Thursday, November 25, 2010 @ 10:33 PM The video I chose for this blog is called Firework by Katy Perry. In my opinion, this video is certainly very inspirational to people who watch it and definitely brings out a great meaning. My initial reaction for this video was trying to understand the message it was portraying. The beginning captured my attention because it was a scene of a city with bright lights and it just looked really interesting. The first part of the video portrays a story behind it and it captures the viewer's attention to make them continue watching. As you keep watching you get to understand what the music video is about. In the music video, the scene is set in night time but to bring out the colours and message, fireworks are used, as well to accompany the song title itself.  There is contrast in colours so things and in the music video can stand out. I think the Katy Perry decided to create this music video to make awareness and send a message to teenagers or anyone in general that they aren't worthless. Everyone is unique and they should stand up for themselves and what they believe in. No one is less than another person and everyone is worth the same, and it's just to bring out a positive message to everyone. The music video shows a cancer patient that has no hope, a girl too shy to go into a swimming pool because she's not as skinny as the others, a young teenage boy who is gay that is at a party, as well as a man on the streets getting robbed. As the video progresses, the cancer patient gains hope for himself and the girl decides to go into the pool and not caring about her size. I think the story behind the gay boy at the party would go against the gospel values and such, but in today's world, it doesn't really matter anymore. Events that may have influenced Katy Perry to create this music video would probably be the social issues that happens around the world. A lot of people have no courage or low self esteem because either people put them down, or there's nothing they can really do to make themselves feel better about who they are. These events gave thoughts and creativity to create a video to oppose these issues. The acting, special effects, storyline, and lyrics work together in the music video because everyone has a chance to shine and be superb, hence the lyrics "You just gotta ignite and let it shine" like a firework. It's a simile to represent how bright a firework can be, comparing to how any person has that ability to shine and make an impact. The visual effects captured my attention and made me like this video because the message is great and the effects are really affective, presenting very beautiful fireworks and effects to enhance the video. The music video influenced my reception of the song by making me like it even more than just the tune and melody of the song. The video brought out a greater meaning to the song and it just explains how society works today. It can give inspiration to many viewers out there, and overall I think it was very well done. 1 Comments
